Formosa 2 Offshore Wind Farm is located around 4-10 kilometers off the coast of Zhunan Township of Miaoli County in northwestern Taiwan, lying right next to Formosa 1 and covering two areas permitted by the Bureau of Energy of the Ministry of Economic Affairs. Stretching across 68.81 square kilometers, Formosa 2 comprises 47 wind turbines, each with a capacity of 8 MW, and has a total installed capacity of 376 MW which is expected to power up to approximately 380,000 households per year.
“Formosa 2 Wind Power Co., Ltd.” is a joint venture owned by Swancor Renewable Energy (SRE) and two multinational companies, namely JERA and Macquarie’s Green Investment Group (GIG). Upon completion of the wind farm, SRE will undertake the operation and maintenance (O&M) services.
Formosa 2 has been dedicating itself to localizing the industry. In addition to successfully signing a 20-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with Taiwan Power Company, Formosa 2 has also worked closely with domestic consultancies and conducted environmental surveys and analyses for the wind farm together with academic institutes.
Furthermore, to foster talents for the offshore wind sector, Formosa 2 developed the “Formosa 2 Offshore Wind Program” with National United University in 2018 and has been offering the program ever since. Additionally, Formosa 2 has actively provided fishermen in Miaoli County with trainings in how to become marine mammal observers.
